We will be offering parents of prospective students the opportunity to tour our campus, visit classrooms to see our students in action, and meet some of our staff. To sign-up for a tour please call the Attendance Office at 310-241-1922. Tours start promptly at 9:00 am and last approximately one hour. All visitors must bring a government ID for check in at the front gate. See dates and times below.
SAS schools feature designated classroom models for instruction of gifted and talented students. Dodson Middle School provides a caring environment with rich resources and materials that provide access to many learning activities that are standard-based and strong in content. The focus is on continuous progress for the individual student.
Who Should Apply?
Identified Gifted/High Achieving students.
Students who scored advanced/exceeded in mathematics and English on the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress)
Students that have the ability to work 2 years above current grade level and meet the four-critical thinking and problem solving domains.
When Are the Applications Due?
Applications to the SAS program are now part of LAUSD's Unified Enrollment Choices.
The window to apply for the 2019-2020 school year is October 1st - November 9th, 2018.
LAUSD will notify you regarding the status of your application during the month of March.

WHY SAS? The School for Advanced Studies Program has been implemented throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The SAS program at Dodson Middle School has been developed to provide high-level academic programs to serve the educational needs of high ability learners.
The program is designed to challenge students to the fullest degree that they are able and willing to achieve.

No upper limit on performance expectations.

SAS Guidelines
The SAS program does not have transportation arrangements.
If a parent/guardian cancels the SAS transfer, the student mustreturn to the school of residence.
The parent/guardian will be able to complete a new SAS transfer application the following spring for the next school year.
When a student matriculates to the next school level, a new SAS application must be made.
Students who do not maintain passing grades and follow the rules and regulations may have their permits canceled.
